Ready To Build - Est 2025 - API and AI Enabled End to End Survey, Design & Build
The Hexayurt Project was started by Vinay Gupta in 2003. The Hexayurt is a group of Architects and Engineers that share ways of making 100% foam buildings. After much popularity at Burning Man and other festivals the latest version of the Hexayurt are available for theft risk reduction.
As of 2025 more than 2000 Hexayurt have been built by festival goers. To pre-order a Hexayurt or see one in the flesh at a festival near you in the UK click here.
The Original Igloo or "Iglou" was first designed by Czech designers Pavla Klečková.
A member of the decentalized onine non profit open source collective: Hexayurt Project. The Igloo is a fast deploy risk reduction shelter for rough sleeping. Lined with infra-red reflecting Mylar; you can think of The Original Igloo as space blanket building.
As of 2025 more than 280 rough sleepers have used The Original Igloo; reducing the risk of hypothermia and drug dependency. To read more about homelessness in the UK click here.
We are a closed source version of the open source The Hexayurt Project. We were first interested in making a hub-less and frameless Geodesic Dome. The Playhouse Igloo and the Garden Office Igloo are designed to be more permeant versions of the same idea. Designed to comply with planning law; and designed to last a life time.
The Winter Igloo was a mission to see what foam construction could really do. We designed a Tulip Dome cutting each panel with a hot wire. This was build was for a Yoga instructor working from home. This would normally cause planning permission complaints but due to the low weight of the build we appealed to Hull City Council claiming protection from the Caravan Act.
This build only cost £5,000 for us and £9,000 to the client. We will be doing the same build again in 2026: reserve your date now for a refundable £100
The Spring Igloo was a simple dome. This was the first Igloo where we did not roof it with SBS roofing; instead we used the much more affordable fibreglass reinforced render, here is us priming the structure.
For large projects like this contact us through gardenroom.ai - most of the time we do not do in-situ builds preferring to do lightweight caravans instead. The weight of the render is actually comparable to the weight of the SBS roofing; however in both cases it makes it harder to rehaul the building post construction - the rendering is done on site. For rehaulable buildings we do our new 100% fibreglass roofing. It should be noted however that the building is already 100% waterproof and the rendering is mostly for looks.
